OvalElephant launched the pre-order of their AMLogic 8726-M3 XBMC Android Box. What’s unique about this box is that is has the same AMLogic chipset as the Pivos XIOS and Sumvision Nano box and there for will play full 1080p video using hardware decoding with the XBMC Android App.
Since the people of XBMC announced the release of their Android port on the 13th of July this year, it has blown up a lot of commotion. PivosGroup sponsored the developers, so the initial XBMC ndroid port only supports hardware video decoding on their Pivos XIOS system. Sales blew up, boxes sold-out on almost all of the available shops online within a few hours. People are still trying to get their hand on one as we speak.
Now a couple of weeks later, the dust felt to the ground again. So what makes this Pivos XIOS so special? Actually not much. If you have read my previous post you can read it makes use of the AMLogic 8726-M SoC. AMLogic have released the kernel sources and software (amplayer), which makes it possible to decode video using AMLogic’s special VPU unit.
OvalElephant has contacted his suppliers and asked for similar hardware. The above mentioned box is the results of that search. The AMLogic 8726-M3 XBMC Android box comes with an IR remote and the necessary cables to start playing your multimedia files straight out of the box.

With the XBMC android port compiled with the amlplayer option enabled it can play up to 1080p just like the Pivos XIOS box. To show the box and it playing some small fragments of the big bunny video in different formats, I uploaded a small video made by OvalElephant to my youtube channel.
OvalElephant is no longer able to deliver this type of box. The good thing is, a new and improved box is available. Check out the shop.
Active development has been going on, a linux XBMC native firmware has just been released
