We are proud to announce that TheLittleBlackBox (TLBB) is about to get launched. TLBB is a joint venture between multiple parties worlwide, with the aim to bring XBMC to the masses.
With the roots of XBMC at the XBox gaming platform, the early users were mostly young gamers that wanted to do more with their hardware (hmm, where did I heard that before?). Later when mister Gates decided to come with MCE, soon the HTPC was born. Although Bill tried hard to sell this to the masses, it were still the Geeks like us (no harm meant) who bought it. It still required a lot of tweaking and setting up…
Now with ARM taking a good portion of the embedded device market, devices finally getting powerfull enough to replace HTPC’s (not in the higest segment). It is about time someone tries to get XBMC to the masses (where it belongs).
For the last months we have been working on it, but soon it will materilize into a little black box, people can just place under their television and it will just play all their media. Ofcourse all with the power of XBMC.
Q: So how does this box look like? What are the specs?
A: We are in the final stages of wrapping up the hardware but It will be based on the Meson3
Q: Meson3? Why? The Meson6 is about to get released?
A: With the TLBB we would like to focus on quality, stability, making it a 100% product. Meson3 gives us that possibility. The meson6 might be a good option as succesor, but not yet…
Q: Why, isn’t that the exact same as Pivos is doing?
A: In a some way yes, BUT… This will be a XBMC only box. NO Android, NO google play apps and yes, NO angry birds. Just an embedded multimedia player that kicks A$$.
Q: So what will happen with the J1nx community build? Will development stop?
A: Of course not! Like said in the previous Q/A, the TLBB is about quality, for the masses. J1nx is a community build; for the community, by the community. We would like to consider the J1nx build as the “Fedora build”, while the TLBB build will be “Redhat”. (If you do not know what the heck I am talking about, you are falling within the TLbb category )
Q: Will you keep on supporting opensource and the used projects such as XBMC?
A: I am offended you even think about that question!
If you would like to be the first to be able to buy one, head over to the LittleBlackBox website and subscribe to the interest mailing list. Be aware! First batches might be smaller so if you do not want to miss out on the first batch, make sure you are on the list.
