Holy crap ! The last blog post here is already more than half a year old … Time flies, when you are… No hang on, that was not having fun. Just rather busy with the day time job. Family life, and more of those excuses. Oh well. Found some time, to send a “I am still alive” message. And on a more positive note: are picking up the development again, although piece for piece.
Here is a quick update of the development that has been done the last weeks.
MycroftOS
As you can see at Github, development has been picked up again although slowly at the 2nd of September.
https://github.com/j1nx/MycroftOS/commits/develop
Here by a quick summary of the stuff being done, not in particular order;
- Updated the Buildroot system to 2019.05.x (will be updated to 2019.08.x soon)
- Updated the kernel to the latest 4.19.x
- Updated all drivers and firmwares to the latest versions
- Updated Mycroft to the latest 19.08.2
- Ficed a lot of open issues (https://github.com/j1nx/MycroftOS/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aclosed)
Keep an eye out, because I would like to release a new alpha (or perhaps first beta) version of MycroftOS. Depends a bit on the wifi setup system. My onboard wifi chip is failing. Took me ages to figure that out.
With perhaps the Buildroot 2019.08.x bump, the next version will also support the RPI4. Most likely need to buy a new PI, so why not directly switch to the RPI4?!? But we will see. Still need to sopprt the RPI3b(+) as well.

Can't wait. We are tying to figure out if this can at some point be used with Inmoov or if we can just have our own piece of hardware at the house that might be equivalent to Alexa. I love mycroft and unfortunately not a developer and just learning python, but darn I wish mycroft was so much further along in terms of AI. Keep it up. I love hearing from you and seeing what's going on

Thanks! Read about the Inmoov project the other day. Very cool project. Out of interest: Who is we and what are you after with MycroftOS in combination with Inmoov if I may ask? Mycroft itself is already getting close to Google Home and and Alexa, however as we are still in the very first stages of A.I. (reactive machines) where it is just only based on trained data, those big companies will still be upfront.

We = my son and I. My son has Asperger's which is high functioning autism and is now 14. Over the years, he has found a passion in A.I. as a companion (per say) or in better words a close friend. He has bought with his own money 2 3d printers and we tinker quite a bit. He now runs 100% linux and works with the Raspberry Pi's a lot. He's been building an inmoov and has the head and arms complete. He does not like that Google and Alexa don't work offline and so we starting playing with Snips, mycroft and a couple of others. I own a Mycroft Mark I, but even with all updates it just does not work as well as an Alexa, but I will say with the respeaker added it hears very very well. I'd love to see a point where mycroftOS could possible be used as part (or backup) on his Inmoov. Keep your project going its awesome and we like to follow it.

Ah, it's you Travis :) The survivalmarketeer threw me off. Nice story and if you ask me personally. Great dad you are ;) I am with you if it come in believing Mycroft would be the best option for the future if it comes to implementing A.I. type of voice control for your Inmoov project. However it might require some additional work by creating certain skills for it. Precise is perfect to call out your robot and have it listen to you for commands. If you have a RPI3 and ReSpeaker board available, you could download the latest alpha version to give it a spin. If so, it would be great to help me out with checking the WiFi on that build as well. https://community.mycroft.ai/t/mycroftos-a-bare-minimal-production-type-of-os-based-on-buildroot/4708/7?u=j1nx
